Found a great fitness (social networking) site...

About 2 weeks ago, there was an article about Lance Armstrong's foundation website - livestrong.com, adding component on diabetes. My husband was recently diagnosed with diabetes and so this definitely caught my eye. I have been on the look out for an online tool that would be easy for him to track his diet and exercise. This could be it!

You can track your exercise with a google map, plotting your beginning and end spots and it tells you how far, calories burned and the bonus - your elevation differences. That is a huge deal because even though Tucson looks flat, now that I too am riding my bike, I can tell you it isn't.

On another part you can track your diet - find food in their lists or even add a recipe and it will break it down to the different components (calories, protein, carbs, etc). If you set a goal, such as maintaining your weight, losing weight (how much per week), it will tell you how many calories you need to consume to meet that goal.

Now here's the coolest part - the fitness and diet can talk to each other. So if you put in your exercise & your diet, it will do the math for you!

The social networking component comes in as you can make your site public; public within the livestrong site or you can announce it to all your facebook friends.

The important piece will be if my husband will use it and he has taken a liking to it. He is tracking his bike rides (he rides more than me - many times 20 miles/day!!! I am so jealous). Next is to get him to track his diet. His doctor has asked him to do it and for some reason he just isn't. Oh, that is something else this tool does - you can export out your info into Excel! That makes it easier for others, like my husband to get the information to their doctor. (and I would think the doctor would like an easy to read format, versus paging through a journal) I know from using this tool, the information on carbs and portion size is an eye opener.

Stay turned for more info on this site - I can see including it in future blogs. If you are part of my facebook, you have already heard about this site, as I announced that yesterday I rode 9.65 miles on my bike and I had to tell EVERYONE! If you are on livestrong - look tcstanley up.
