taking the plunge...

Decided to move my comments from my wiki's Announcements and News page to an official blog. Info on me is there also. I want to call it 'all things techy', but alas, it will contain personal info also. So stay tuned for thought provoking ideas, cool links, library info and more.

Here is one of my recent posts regarding my trip to Boston.

Just back from classes in Boston and more jazzed than ever about participatory media. I really can see this type of tool being valuable in the classroom - especially in the higher ed classroom. We had the opportunity to meet with Henry Jenkins (don't forget to signup for his blog) and his staff at Comparative Media Studies. We also attended theMIT Communications Forum where we heard Mario Armstrong and Ian Bogost discuss and answer questions on video games and citizenship. AND we were fortunate to sit in on one of Maestro Ben Zander's Master Classes at the New England Conservatory of Music. (He is also the conductor of the Boston Philharmonic.) I would love the opportunity to do that again. It was inspiring to see what he can bring out of these students, who are already great musicians. I think I had goose-bumps for the entire class. Afterward, our Cadre and Cadre 13 had a private meeting with him where questions were answered and books signed.
Of course, I ate at Legal Sea Food (love their lobster loaf), Fire and Ice (love everything) and found a great desert place with a cool name - Finale (5-star yummy).
Also, I think I have a consultancy set for next semester. I will be working with Susan Gautsch at Pepperdine. She is the Director of E-Learning in the Graziadio School of Business and Management. She will be piloting the Confluence wiki in an MBA class and I will be working with her on that. VERY, very excited.
[On a personal note, reading New Literacies Sampler for class and highly recommend it. Great book on what the new literacies are, but also how they are currently being used.]
